"'I think it is extremely important to look after one’s body. With the onset of age, even more so. I love the fact that with Pilates you can work to your own ability and improve at your own pace. Our strengths and weaknesses are all different and I have found acceptance in that I can do some exercises better than others. I have found I have a core! I can now sit upright on a chair which I was never able to do without slouching. I think my posture has improved. I always feel good at the end of a class and relaxed. So not only does it contribute to helping have a healthy body, but it is also away of switching off from the daily stresses and providing some mental relaxation. I decided to fight back. One of my health issues, was that I had permanent damage to my back. I began with Pilates classes and then took up cross-fit training and rowing. Last July, I tried running half-a-mile. This year, I have run three 10Km races and the Birmingham half-marathon.”

I had tried Pilates in large classes and found that these large classes do not work as the instructor simply was not aware of all the mistakes I was making and couldn’t ensure that I was performing the exercises correctly. “I have spent many years with a fast-paced lifestyle, working in a stressful job on the computer. I developed bad posture (round shoulders, tight lower back), and I finally ended up with a prolapsed / slipped disc. I had sciatica for a whole year, with excruciating pain day and night. I tried to find relief and went to see all sorts of specialists (my GP, physio, massage therapist, osteopath, remedial Pilates & chiropractor), but none of them could help with a long-term solution. A friend finally recommended Me..time Pilates and I admit I was skeptical at first, but even after the very first one-to-one session, I found that the pain had eased off and now it’s disappeared completely since I’ve been doing the exercises on a regular basis. Amanda has showed me how to correct my posture, and got the right muscles working to support my vertebrae in the lower part of my back and fixed my round shoulder problem, which in turn helped me to stand up straight, which meant that my disc wasn’t compressing anymore and I have been pain free ever since. I would recommend Me..time Pilates to anyone with any kind of back problem or injury – they really understand how the body works, they’re the best I could find! The unique method of combining Pilates with personal training insured quick recovery of my problem – a real miracle for me.”

At my first meeting with Amanda, we agreed I was a little round shouldered and tight in my lower back. She confidently said ‘I will fix that’… I was sceptical…. After a few One to one sessions, I realised this was a very challenging form of Pilates – combining core control with strength work at a pace to deliver aerobic fitness. After one training session, I released the tightness in my shoulder that I’d lived with for years, could ease instantly with correct posture. Now my strength and tone are much more balanced, my posture is getting better all the time. I wonder how much my performance might have improved had I discovered Me..time when I was a full time athlete!”
